A Nov. 19, 2025 study in Proceedings of the IEEE warns AI can extract far more from speech than just the words we say. Beyond emotion or fatigue, computers can analyze tone, cadence and word choice to infer education level, finances, political views — even possible health conditions.

The research, led by Tom Bäckström of Aalto University, highlights serious privacy risks. If a corporation can sense your economic situation from your voice, it could open the door to price discrimination, like higher insurance premiums. If emotional vulnerability or personal traits are detectable, it may enable profiling, harassment or stalking.

The technology isn’t fully in use yet, but the building blocks already exist. From voicemails to recorded customer service calls, our voices are stored everywhere. Speech tech has real promise — but the question is what it learns about us, and who ultimately controls that information.

OPPO is reportedly testing a brand-new Samsung HPC sensor for Find X10 Pro Max

OPPO is likely to choose the HPC instead of OV52A (40nm) or OV52B (28nm).

Samsung HPC comes with a 1/1.3" 200MP sensor size.
It supports 4x4 RMSC with 16-in-1 pixel binning and full remosaic capability.
It features UFCC technology.
It is positioned in the ultra high dynamic range category but does not support LOFIC.
It is built on an advanced manufacturing process, possibly 28nm.

According to DCS, OPPO is testing dual 200MP 1/1.3" sensors for Find X10 Pro Max, one for the main camera and one for telephoto, meaning Samsung HPC could potentially be used for both modules.

Sony Group has developed a technology that can identify the original music used in AI-generated songs, potentially allowing songwriters to seek compensation if their work helped train AI models.

The system analyzes which artists’ tracks were used in learning and generating music, and can even estimate contribution levels. If developers cooperate, Sony can connect directly to base model systems for detailed data. Without cooperation, it compares AI-generated tracks with existing catalogs to estimate the sources.

As the AI boom fuels accusations of copyrighted music being used without permission — including songs mimicking famous singers — Sony believes this tool could support a framework where revenue from AI music is shared with original creators and help curb infringement.

Developed by Sony AI, the technology could also be applied to video, games and character content. The company has not yet announced when it will be put into practical use.

Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2600 introduces Heat Pass Block (HPB), a new cooling solution designed to lower thermal resistance and improve heat dissipation by up to 20%.

With chipsets pushing higher clock speeds — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro rumored at 5.00GHz and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy expected to reach 4.74GHz — heat output continues to rise.

Brands like REDMAGIC have added built-in cooling fans to manage temperatures, but they can be noisy and still aren’t a perfect solution.

AI creates artificial animals that over time develop functioning vision without instruction

The most surprising aspect was that the computer’s eyes developed in the same way as those of real organisms.

Researchers in Sweden have created artificial animals that evolved vision from scratch — starting with simple light sensitivity and eventually learning to discern objects, without any instructions.

“It’s the first time AI has been used to follow how a complete vision system can arise without telling the computer how it should come to be,” said Professor Dan-Eric Nilsson of Lund University.

In a synthetic world built of code, virtual animals were given tasks like navigating and finding food. Generation by generation, those that adapted best passed on their traits. Over time, light-sensitive structures evolved into functioning eyes.

Surprisingly, the digital eyes developed along the same paths seen in nature — as if evolution followed its usual blueprint, even inside a computer.

Russian firm turns pigeons into brain-controlled surveillance drones using GPS

A Moscow startup says pigeons with microscopic brain electrodes completed controlled test flights over the city in late 2025.

The PJN-1 project uses neurosurgery instead of training. Electrodes linked to a small head stimulator let operators steer the birds, while a lightweight backpack carries GPS, a controller, solar panels, and a chest camera for real-time tracking. The company claims the pigeons can fly up to 300 miles a day without batteries and be deployed immediately after surgery.

Neiry says the birds can navigate tight spaces, handle harsh weather, and operate where drones face restrictions, for uses like infrastructure inspections, power line monitoring, and search-and-rescue.

Founder Alexander Panov said: “Any bird can be a carrier… ravens for heavier payloads, seagulls, and for large sea areas — albatrosses.”

The project is already raising ethical and security debates.

First-ever experimental gene therapy aims to restore vision by rejuvenating eye neurons

Life Biosciences is testing ER-100, an experimental gene therapy designed to restore vision by reviving damaged retinal neurons. Unlike existing treatments that slow disease, ER-100 uses epigenetic reprogramming to reset aging retinal cells, targeting optic neuropathies such as glaucoma and NAION, where vision loss is irreversible.

The therapy works by controlled expression of three Yamanaka transcription factors — OCT-4, SOX-2, and KLF-4 (OSK) — to rewind cellular aging signatures. Scientists have created an early prototype called Pulse-Fi that can estimate a person’s heart rate using Wi-Fi signals, without wearables or physical contact. The system uses AI and low-cost, off-the-shelf hardware to analyze tiny changes in Wi-Fi signals caused by chest movement during breathing and heartbeats.

In tests, Pulse-Fi remained accurate across different distances (up to 3 meters), body positions, and light activities. It’s not a dire wolf—yeah, we know. In early 2025, Colossal Biosciences made headlines with a snow-white wolf said to revive a species extinct for 10,000 years. Scientists pushed back: it’s still a gray wolf, just one engineered with about 20 DNA traits taken from ancient dire wolf bones.

A cheaper, safer, and more abundant alternative to lithium is reaching cars and power grids.

For decades, lithium-ion batteries have powered phones, laptops, and EVs. But lithium’s limited supply and volatile prices have pushed the industry to seek alternatives. Sodium-ion batteries work similarly, moving ions between electrodes, but sodium is cheap and widely available. While not yet much cheaper, costs are expected to drop as production scales.

China is leading adoption. CATL launched its Naxtra sodium-ion line in 2025 and began large-scale manufacturing. BYD is building a major production facility. JMEV offers its EV3 with a sodium-ion battery, and HiNa Battery supplies low-speed EVs.

The biggest impact may be on power grids. Sodium-ion batteries are low-cost, thermally stable, and long-lasting. Energy density is lower than lithium-ion cells but improving, already enough for small cars, logistics vehicles, and two-wheelers.
