Reorganize the drawer you curse at every time you need a pan. Dust one thing that’s been bothering you every time you look at it. Set up autopay on that one bill. Move the thing you keep tripping over or hate to see put everyday. Change the batteries in the thing that keeps beeping at you. Reorganize the drawer you curse at every time you need a pan. Rearrange where things in the refrigerator so it makes the most sense to you and nothing spoils.

If it feels too big, just do one part of it. Wipe one shelf in the fridge. That’s it. You’ll probably keep going, but if you don’t - that still a win baby!

I had an automatic trash can that beeped at me constantly for months. Finally took the batteries out. Now every time I walk past it I’m like…hell yeah.

YSK that major pharmacy chains are charging your insurance more for prescriptions than the cash price, and you can check this before paying

I found this out the hard way last month when I picked up my generic blood pressure medication. My insurance copay was $47. On a whim, I asked the pharmacist what it would cost without insurance. $12.

\*\*Why YSK:\*\* Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) negotiate prices between insurance companies and pharmacies, and sometimes those negotiated rates are actually higher than the cash price. You're legally allowed to ask for the lower price, but most pharmacies won't volunteer this information because they make more money from your insurance company.

This is especially common with generic medications. The system is set up so that when you hand over your insurance card, the pharmacy runs it through and tells you your copay. What they don't tell you is whether that copay is higher than just paying out of pocket. And here's the infuriating part: some insurance plans have "gag clauses" that actually prevented pharmacists from telling you about cheaper options until laws started changing in 2018. Even now, most won't mention it unless you specifically ask.

I started checking every prescription. Out of my last 6 medications:
\- Lisinopril: $47 copay vs $12 cash
\- Omeprazole: $30 copay vs $9 cash
\- Metformin: $25 copay vs $4 cash

That's $76 in savings on just three medications in one month.

\*\*How to check:\*\*

When picking up a prescription, simply ask: "What would this cost without insurance?" The pharmacist has to tell you. If the cash price is lower, tell them you want to pay that instead. You can also check prices ahead of time using GoodRx or RxSaver apps, which show cash prices at different pharmacies near you.

The catch: if you pay cash price, that money typically won't count toward your insurance deductible. So you need to decide whether the immediate savings outweigh the deductible credit. For me, with a $6,000 deductible I never hit anyway, the cash price wins every time.

Some pharmacies are worse than others about this. CVS and Walgreens have been particularly bad in my experience. Costco pharmacy (you don't need a membership to use it) consistently has the lowest cash prices and their pharmacists seem more willing to mention it.

The whole system feels designed to extract maximum money from people who are just trying to stay alive. I'm still angry that I probably overpaid for years without knowing. Someone on ADHDerTips mentioned this practice affecting their ADHD medication costs too, which makes sense given how expensive those can be even with insurance.

This isn't just about disagreeing. It's the stubborn, automatic "don't tell me what to do" impulse that can pop up even when the advice is good or the request is reasonable.

Why YSK.

If you are trying to clean up your finances by cancelling cards or giving them spending limits, Amazon will still try to take your money through any other listed payment system on your account instead of pausing the subscription.

This can cause you overdraft fees or other issues like fraud alerts when Amazon switches the payments. Particularly if you have used a card to buy items on Amazon, video subscriptions normally appear as ‘Kindle’ charges to your bank, meaning they won’t be immediately recognisable as normal spending on that card.

It’s a common misbelief that cancelling a card will stop the spending associated with it, and then you can ‘see what you’re missing’ when it comes to subscriptions.

YSK that if you Google your phone number in quotes like:

"xxx-xxx-xxxx"

you may find it listed on dozens or even hundreds of “people search” or data broker websites.

Why YSK: These sites aggregate public records and other data sources and often list:

\-phone numbers

\-current and past addresses

\-relatives

\-age ranges

Examples include Whitepages, Spokeo, FastPeopleSearch, Radaris, etc.

I recently did this and found my information across a huge number of sites, which likely explains why spam calls increase after a data breach.

You can remove yourself manually, but each site has its own opt-out process and some require identity verification.

If you’ve never checked before, try Googling your own phone number in quotes and see what appears.

YSK that you can disable Google's un-feature of shortening shared links into http://share.google/ URLs

Why YSK: shortened links have several downsides (see below), and Google has chosen to make them the default when sharing links. You may be helping Google track others without noticing it.

According to [9to5google]( https://9to5google.com/2025/06/26/google-app-link-shortener/) and confirmed by me just now, you can go into the settings of your account in the Google app to disable link shortening:

> Open the Google app and tap your profile avatar for Settings. Under “Other settings,” there’s a new “Shorten links to web pages: Links you share to pages will be automatically shortened” toggle. It’s automatically enabled in an unfortunate default behavior.

Shortened links are undesirable for several reasons:
- The receiver of the link can't tell where it goes before clicking. In the worst case, you could be led to a malware or phishing site. You _should_ check a link before clicking it, but link shorteners make this literally impossible.
- Google tracks every click on such a link, even if the receiver doesn't want to use Google.
- It is simply unnecessary, at least in the vast majority of cases.
- Maybe even more important: Google can at any time stop supporting the shortened link. This has happened before, [with http://goo.gl/ links]( https://mashable.com/article/google-discontinuing-link-shortener-how-to-check-yours) (at least some of them).

I'm not under the illusion that stopping using Google's link shortener will prevent Google from tracking people, but this is a "feature" that has no benefit for users, so there's no tradeoff in deactivating it.

I say, before I answer, repeat what you think I just said in one sentence.

LPT: Before a difficult conversation, write down the one thing you most need the other person to understand. Not what you want to say — what you need them to understand. It will change how you approach the whole thing.

Most difficult conversations go sideways not because people are unreasonable but because the person talking is focused on what they want to express and the person listening is focused on how to respond, and neither of them is focused on actual understanding. I spent years going into hard conversations with a mental list of things I wanted to say and almost always came out feeling like nothing had landed. The shift for me was a small reframe I picked up from a therapist: before the conversation, write down in one sentence what you genuinely need the other person to walk away understanding. Not your whole case. Not the history. Not the list of things they've done. Just: if they understood one thing from this conversation, what would actually change something? When you know that, your entire approach shifts. You stop trying to cover every point and you start figuring out how to make that one thing land clearly. You cut the things that are true but not useful. You think about what the other person's starting position is and what would actually reach them from where they are rather than from where you are. I've used this before conversations with my partner, my manager, my parents, and once with a landlord who was trying to keep my deposit. In every case the conversation was shorter and more productive than my previous approach. You might not get the outcome you want, but you have a much better chance of being genuinly heard, which is usually what the outcome depends on anyway.

YSK cancelling Netflix through a third party like T-Mobile doesn't cancel your subscription. You will be charged to the card on file. Refund requests will be denied.

TL;DR If you’re paying for your subscription through a third party company like T-mobile cancelling your subscription with that company does not cancel your actual subscription with Netflix. Any card you have on file will be billed the day after your “cancelled” service ends. T-Mobile doesn’t provide this information and the only way to find it is buried in the help section of http://Netflix.com/. Netflix will only refund the most recent charge regardless of the circumstances.

I have been paying for Netflix through T-Mobile for about a year. Previously my mom was paying for it for through Netflix. I cancelled the Netflix add on with T-Mobile through the T-Life app on January 24th. There was no information about when the service would end, or that the account would still be billed through the card on file in the Netflix account. There were zero warnings, disclosures, or any information at all. Just cancelled. I (wrongfully) assumed we would get a notice on the TV that the subscription has ended when the billing period was over since I had cancelled mid billing cycle with T-Mobile. In January 25th my mom’s credit card was billed for a full month of see. We did not know about this until she looked at her statement today. I immediately logged in on the Netflix website and cancelled the account. When I checked the billing history I saw another charge for February 25th.

I contacted Netflix chat to request a refund. I explained that I was under the impression I cancelled the service in January and was requesting a refund for both charges. Was told there was usage on the account and they could refund only the most recent charge and cancel services immediately. I explained

\> Yes, when I canceled it didn't say when services would end so my mom just kept watching it until it stopped. She saw the charge on her credit card statement today. We can cancel today but l'd still like both charges refunded. The process was unclear and there were no warnings.

And the response was infuriating

\> Apologies \*\*you should have contact us earlier then\*\*, right now only recent charge can be refunded that was deducted on Feb 25, let me know how you wish to proceed?

How was I supposed to contact them with this issue earlier when I contacted them \*\*immediately\*\* after discovering the problem? No explanation would help me resolve my issue. When I asked for my complaint to be escalated to a supervisor I was told the answer would be the same. While waiting for a supervisor I was disconnected from chat.

I decided to call and speak to someone directly to resolve my issue. When I explained what happened I was told I needed to reference a specific section of their \[help FAQs\] ([ https://help.netflix.com/en/node/66915?g=94ab6a64-8c61-40f2-b8a0-7469422f0321&lkid=URL\_SUPPORT\_ARTICLE&lnktrk=EVO](https://help.netflix.com/en/node/66915?g=94ab6a64-8c61-40f2-b8a0-7469422f0321&lkid=URL_SUPPORT_ARTICLE&lnktrk=EVO)) and I would find an explanation for why I was charged there. I understood \*why\* I was charged, \*after the fact\*, I didn’t need further explanation. I was told there was absolutely zero chance of receiving a refund ($18.66) for the previous charge and they were only able to refund the most recent one. The only way I can get that money back is to dispute the charges with my bank.

This is an incredibly unethical, predatory practice and policy. I contacted them within minutes of discovering the charges and their response was I should have contacted them earlier. There was no information provided through T-Mobile at the time of cancellation, no warnings, no disclosures. The information I was supposed to magically know is buried in a long list of information in their help section. A multi-billion dollar company apparently needs their $18 far more than their consumers do. Why YSK: this will prevent you from falling victim to their greed like I did.

Only make chargebacks when you're \*absolutely sure\* that you will never use that business again, either for straight up fraud or for refusing to help you in any way for previous refund requests. Otherwise, just submit a refund or fraudulent purchase request with them.

I audited the privacy practices of popular free file converter sites by inspecting network requests, reading privacy policies, and counting cookies and third-party domains.

iLovePDF: A single page load set 637 cookies from 221 domains. 141 of those domains belonged to ad networks. Your uploaded files pass through servers that are deeply integrated with advertising infrastructure. Their privacy policy states they may share data with third-party partners for advertising purposes.

SmallPDF: Loads Google Analytics, Hotjar (full session recording), and multiple ad trackers before you even upload a file. Their free tier processes files server-side, meaning your documents leave your device and sit on their infrastructure. Privacy policy allows sharing with "service providers and business partners."

CloudConvert: The relative exception. Minimal tracking, transparent pricing model, and files are deleted from servers after conversion. Still server-side processing, but significantly less advertising infrastructure compared to the others.

The pattern across most of these tools is the same: the file conversion is the product you see, but the tracking ecosystem around it is the actual business model. Your documents are being uploaded to servers that are also talking to dozens of ad networks, analytics platforms, and data brokers.

For anything sensitive, converting files locally on your own machine is the safest option. LibreOffice handles most document conversions, and built-in OS tools can handle image compression and format changes without uploading anything.

I stumbled on this completely by accident a few months ago. I was lying there at like 1am, thoughts jumping from a work email I forgot to send to some random argument I had in 2017, and I just started internally going "she turned off the lamp and stared at the ceiling, tired but unable to quiet her mind." Within maybe ten minutes I was out. I've tried it every night since and it works maybe 8 out of 10 times for me, which is way better than anything else I've tested. The theory I have is that it forces your brain to slow down and process things linearly instead of jumping around. You can't really narrate fast — you naturally use calm, descriptive language, and somewhere in the middle of describing how your character "pulled the blanket up and listened to the rain outside," your brain just kind of... accepts it's time to stop. It also helps if you add boring sensory details like the temperature of the room or how the pillow feels. The more mundane the better. My bf thought I was insane when I told him but he tried it after a rough week and texted me "ok thats actually wierd it worked" so now we both do it. Takes maybe 2 or 3 nights to get the hang of the format but after that it becomes weirdly automatic.
